2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the Portugal Football Federation, and their new Nike kit reflects a storied football history. The home jersey features a tonal red and maroon design that is said to evoke a sense of speed and exhilaration. Keeping with the historic theme, the inside of the collar features an Armillary Sphere which is “a navigation tool that famous Portuguese explorers used to discover the world. It has stood as a national symbol for more than 500 years and serves as the background for the Portuguese shield on the national flag,” according to Nike. The Portugal squad will debut the kits tomorrow in their match against Cameroon.
The new kits utilize Nike’s latest innovations with the use of their Dri-FIT technology, laser-cut ventilation holes, and engineered mesh areas that allow increased breathability.
