The Official Home Kit of the Netherlands was revealed by Nike today as a celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Dutch Football Association. The new kit has an updated crest featuring the signature lion in white which has been used on Dutch jerseys since 1907. Beneath the crest, the year 1889 is used to commemorate the founding year and 2014 for the anniversary.
Nike also collaborated with Dutch graphic designer and typographer Wim Crouwel to create new names and numbers in a modern font that nods to the classic numbers used in the 1970s.
The new kits utilize Nike’s latest innovations with the use of their Dri-FIT technology, laser-cut ventilation holes, and engineered mesh areas that allow increased breathability. Read more about the technologies used here. The entire kit, including jersey, shorts, and socks, is made from and average of 18 recycled plastic bottles.
